ONE MONTH TO SBC SUMMIT: Q&A WITH NATHAN LUNT

30 August 2024

As the SBC Summit in Lisbon approaches in just one month, we caught up with Nathan Lunt, the Strategic Partnership Manager at Digital Isle of Man. With just over three years of experience working with eGaming companies, Nathan’s role involves guiding businesses through every step of their journey on the Isle of Man, from initial inquiries to ongoing support. His work is crucial in helping companies navigate the island’s digital landscape and integrate into its thriving ecosystem.

In our Q&A, Nathan shares his insights on the upcoming SBC Summit, what he’s looking forward to at the event, and how Digital Isle of Man plans to showcase the Isle of Man as a leading hub for digital innovation and gaming. Read on to discover why the Isle of Man is an attractive destination for eGaming businesses and get a glimpse of what Nathan will be presenting at SBC.

Can you tell us a bit about your role at Digital Isle of Man and how you work with the Gaming sector on the Island?

As a Strategic Partnership Manager at Digital Isle of Man, my role blends both account management and business development, which enables me to support new businesses throughout their whole journey from initial enquiry stage, through to continuing to work with them once their operations land in the Isle of Man.

Our team focuses on helping businesses grow by serving as a key contact point, assisting them in overcoming challenges, seizing opportunities, and building connections within the digital ecosystem.

Whether I’m working with a business which has roots on the Island, or they are a complete newcomer, my goal is always to ensure their experience of doing business in the Island is seamless and they are welcomed into the digital community.

With SBC just a month away, what are you most looking forward to at this year’s event?

Despite the way we’re always connected using technology, nothing beats face-to-face business for building strong relationships. After three years in the eGaming industry, I've developed many connections that have grown into friendships, so alongside meeting new contacts, I find events like SBC a great opportunity to catch up with friendly faces.

At SBC, our stand serves as a hub for those interested in learning more about the Isle of Man. I enjoy sharing my experiences and highlighting why the Isle of Man is an exceptional jurisdiction for eGaming businesses.

This year, Digital Isle of Man will be joined by five stand partners to showcase the Island as a leading eGaming hub. Our combination of regulatory excellence, financial incentives, and world-class infrastructure makes the Isle of Man an ideal location for companies looking to scale or innovate.

Not only this, but I also find conferences like SBC a useful opportunity to brush up on the latest industry trends and global opportunities, allowing me to further my knowledge as to how the Island’s proposition fits on the international stage.

Are there any key trends or innovations that you’re particularly excited to explore or discuss at SBC this year?

The eGaming sector is constantly evolving, and I’ve recently been reading about developments in blockchain, digital assets, and AI for the sector.

For the Isle of Man, we pride ourselves on being home to a regulatory environment that supports innovations like these, whilst also retaining focus on important key areas including player protection and responsible gambling, which are essential for maintaining the industry's integrity and sustainability.

How do you plan to showcase the Isle of Man’s strengths in digital innovation and gaming to the SBC audience?

At SBC Lisbon, the Isle of Man’s booth will demonstrate the clear advantages of licensing or establishing operations in the Island, such as our experienced and highly respected regulator, favourable tax regime, and robust IT and data infrastructure. I'm also available to discuss how our supportive government ecosystem and strategic location can help businesses not only succeed but excel in a competitive market.

The Isle of Man already has a globally recognised reputation as a premier hub for eGaming, so the real value of attending events like SBC comes from the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and present these benefits directly, ensuring we're engaging with the right people at the right time.

In your opinion, what sets the Isle of Man apart as a digital and gaming hub compared to other jurisdictions?

The Isle of Man stands out for its blend of regulatory strength, financial incentives, and a highly supportive government and industry ecosystem.

Our Gambling Supervision Commission is not only experienced but also forward-thinking, adapting to new technologies and market trends to keep our licensees ahead.

Financially, the Isle of Man offers significant advantages, including 0% corporation tax, low gaming duties, and no capital gains tax. Additionally, the Island boasts world-class infrastructure, with top-tier data centres, reliable energy, and excellent connectivity to Europe and the USA.

What advice would you give to someone attending SBC for the first time?

SBC can be overwhelming if it’s your first time attending due to its size and the sheer number of industry experts.

My advice is to arrive with clear objectives, whether it's networking, exploring new business opportunities, or learning about the latest industry trends. Don’t hesitate to engage with exhibitors and speakers—everyone is there to connect and share insights and in my experience are always very welcoming.

Of course I also encourage anyone attending to visit the Digital Isle of Man booth. We'll be there alongside our stand partners to discuss how the Isle of Man could be the right fit for your business, and I'd be delighted to meet personally to explore how we can support your goals.
